Awkward and Awesome!

Since my outfits this week have been dominated by a ginormous brace that has earned my the nick-name "Crash" from someone who shall remain nameless- I decided to show you one of my favorite outfits for fall! Enjoy!

Awkawrd:
-When we went to a Rockies (baseball) game and I thought they were playing the Sea Hawks. Um... unless they invented a new sport where baseball and football combined... that wasn't possible.
-Having a male nurse for your... ahem... yearly exam
-Needing to go to the ER and deciding you had probably better shave your week old hairy legs before someone has to touch those things...
-Having to go to the bathroom outdoots... Oh the things I do because my husband is a mountain man
-The comments I heard while hiking, "Um... is pink like... you're favorite color?" NOPE! Just thought I would waste all my money on gear that's in my least favorite color!
-That I serioulsy cannot stop watching Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. That family is just suck a train wreck... I can't look away.
-That we went shopping at J Crew before going to the ER... In my defense it hurt worse when we got home AND J Crew was on the way (besides I needed a shower... duh).
-Not being able to workout this whole week. I serioulsy feel like a snuffaluffagus.
 
Awesome:
-Husband came and had lunch with me at work yesterday :-)
-I made homemade granola for the first time ever and it is AMAZING! (and I didn't even use a real recipe! I just trew stuff in)
-Three day weekend!
-When you find something in your size on sale! Seriously this is the best thing ever.
-PROJECTS when they are done :-)
-Anthropologie.
-Tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!!

No Really... Those are Air Planes

I am married to a pilot
Which means that in this house we love to fly
And look at Air Planes
And go to Air Plane museums
AND forturnately for us... we live right by an air port (convenient eh?)
I was quite sad to miss the air show going on around here since we were out hiking
BUT to our great delite we still got to check out a few cool planes.
An F22 and P51 to be exact.
 




I must say... being married to a pilot is pretty sweet
Especially when he has flown some awesome planes
AND he can tell you ALL about the ones you see in the sky
I am ready for my next trip! Can we perhaps take an F16?

Quandary Peak

I hiked my very first 14er this past weekend!
What the heck it a 14er?
Don't worry... Before I met husband I had no idea
Before him I was definitely an "indoor girl" if you catch my drift
Basically this sucker was over 14,000 feet
I won't bore you with tons of details... but enjoy the sceneary and pretend you were there with me K?










 
Things I learned on this trip:
#1. My dog is the best hiker in the entire world
#2. I think Met-RX bars are disgusting
#3. I will be eternally grateful that I married a boyscout
#4. I need to learn how to hunt like Katniss Everdeen- because honestly I'm useless in the woods.
#5. Always shave your legs before you leave on a hiking trip
#6. 14.000 feet is no joke
#7. Always be glad you don't hike with the dudes wearing jeans.
#8. BRING GLOVES WHIT! Duh. It was freezing up there.
#9. Not all noises in the woods are creep creatures... sometime's its just a tree.
#10. Try not to end up the ER next time.
 
According to the ER doc- I have a possible meniscus tear and definitely a sprain.
This hike reminded me a lot of THAT ONE TIME I hike Half Dome
And... another knee bites the dust.

Pinspiration: Halloween

I can feel it coming... Fall that is
I woke up the other morning and it slapped me in the face
Kind of like, "Hey Whitney! You know all this heat you hate right now... Well guess what? That's about to change really quick!"
I can hardly wait for October... From October-February is my most favorite time of the entire year
(which is nice since it is almost half of the year ha!)
As such I have been obsessing over what to do/make for Halloween...

Every year our church does a "trunk-or-treat" and we always bring pumpkins but they just make my car smell funny for day's after. These are adorable and totally reusable! Not to mention... less messy! VIA

That one time I fell for a boy

I get a lot of flack from people about being married young...
Not so much like they are judging me... But kinda

Yep... going on 4 years

Yep... Sure was... and I know girls who got married way younger too
Gosh you were such a baby!

To the astonishment of most people as well
They freak when I tell them I married my husband 6 months after I met him
But it is totally true... Less than 6 months in fact... more like 5ish

We were engaged September 8th 2008
and we were married December 18th 2008

Most people have engagements longer than our entire relationship by the time we were married
Look... here's the thing... I'm not saying go and pick up a guy on the street (or at church in my case) and marry him in 6th months...
I'm just saying it worked for me


I did all the things wrong in a relationship that you aren't really supposed to do
#1. I facebook stalked my husband before I ever met him
Our church group had a FB page and he wrote on it saying he was moving to the area. In my defense he had a photo of him flying an airplane... How could I NOT be curious?
#2. I deliberately placed myself where I knew he would be
The one and only reason I agreed to go to the pancake breakfast with my mom on 4th of July
#3. I texted him first...
I honestly could not help myself. The man said he would call/text me later! And I had waited 5 hours!


So judge me if you must
But I knew he was the one... and so I didn't wait to snatch him up
And I have never ever ever ever regretted it.

It's OK...

Monday... I think it should be mandatory that no one has to wake up until 10 am when you roll around... Because Monday's are just plain hard.


It's OK...
-To always feel like the weekends aren't ever long enough
-That I am still convinced I need to be in The Hunger Games movies
-To be excited for fall but dreading the winter
-That sometimes I look through pictures of husband and I when I miss him
-To already be planning for Halloween
-That I hate using a hair dryer
-To have a closet full of clothes and still feel like I have nothing to wear
-That we now own a Subaru
-To still love pink
-That I seriously contemplated going to Disneyland Paris for my birthday this next year
-To be super disappointed that my bank didn't have Disney Princess checks to order
-That I never realized how much Harry Potter and Frodo look alike until I saw a pin on pinterest
-To not have put up my fall wreath yet... I have been instructed to wait until September 1st
-That I have been unquestionably "blonde" this entire weekend
-To be girly
-To hightail it out of church because you don't want to be assigned to speak
-That I eat chocolate... a lot.
-To be happy with how I look now.
-That I can't seem to break my "hand on hip" habit... sorry... it's an addiction.

Kiehls product review

I can't believe that I have never heard of and/or tried anything from Kiehls until we moved...
Where in the world have I been!?
Oh... right... in a rural area with the most terrible shopping ever
I am here to tell you... Kiehl's products are amazing...
So here are my top 5 things I currently love at Kiehl's.

#1. Kiehl's Restorative Dry Argan Oil
With my skin being exceedingly dry, I was already a huge fan of argan oil. The kind I was using before left me moisturized but greasy afterwards. This one soaks in really quick but still leaving my skin nice and soft.

#2. Kiehl's Olive Fruit Oil Nurishing Shampoo

I have had the most horrible time trying to find a shampoo that I love. This one takes the cake so far (from Enjoy, Wen, Avada...). It smells fabulous and BONUS it actually does what is says it is going to do. My hair is nurished without making it look like I poured mayo on my scalp. A+ from me.

#3. Kiehl's Olive Fruit Oil Nurishing Conditioner
Yes I bought the matching set! (Which I tried the samples of before commiting to it... I am a strong believer in samples). This little baby has done wonders for my morning routine. I used to have to spend tons of time combing out my long hair (with half of my hair count in my comb) but I am pleased to say my hair is nice and detangled.

#4. Kiehl's Imperial Body Balm

I obsessed over this product for weeks before buying it (it is pretty pricey for a lotion). When I first tried it I could not stop touching my skin! It was so soft and smooth and I was in love. Definitely worth the money in my opinion. It smells great and gives me moisturized skin all day long!

#5. Kiehl's Milk and Honey Whipped Body Butter

Yes I do realize I have 3 moisturizers on here... I'm kind of obsessed. A. Because I like variety. B. Because my skin was as dry as a cracker when we moved out here. C. I am obsessed with products. I LOVE the way this one smells!!! I found that the moisture didn't last as long as the imperial body butter but the smell makes up for it! So what if you have to put on 2 coats instead of one? It just means you get to smell extra good!

Please be sure to ask for samples whenever you try a new product!!! Don't be afraid! Be sure you love it before you commit to it...

P.S. Has anyone tried "dried brushing"? Thoughts?

Pajama Jeans

In lieu of Awkward and Awesome's today I would like to discuss something near and dear to my heart... (because my whole week has been one huge awkward unlucky mess- don't worry I will spare you all the details- just know that 2/3 cars are now in the shop among other things... le sigh)
Let's talk about WHY people feel pajama jeans are socially acceptable
Hint: They aren't
I will be the first to admit that I adore the jokes we make about putting on our PJ's to go to Walmart
(because let's face it... if your tops and bottoms matched you would probably still be the best dressed person there)
But really people- PJ's should only be seen by those nearest and dearest to you
Not the entire free world
Unless it's an absolute emergency
Maybe it was the way my mother raised me but my mom NEVER leaves the house without makeup
OR a nice outfit on... EVEN if she just has to run to the store quickly...

And REALLY? Someone had to go and think up the concept of pajama jeans
AND someone bought into that idea
BECAUSE there is a market for it
And they aren't cheap! $40 for pajama jeans!? You have GOT to be kidding me
Just go out and buy yourself some REAL jeans
And throw those suckers on before leaving the house.
I think we are all becoming desensitized by all the pajamaness we see
Stop the madness!
I am hereby starting a rebellion against pajama jeans and the like
You may call me the Katniss Everdeen of appropriate outing wear
... Maybe my hatred just boils from the center of my being that is angry that I didn't think up this idea first...  I could be a millionaire by now.
(Ok I don't drink but this cracked me up!)

P.S. I can still tell they are pajamas....

What's in my makeup bag

I am a self proclaimed product junkie
I honestly can't help it... I think it's in my blood or something
This past weekend we went to Sephora (aka the danger zone)
Don't worry- I only bought ONE (yes only one) thing
But when the girl asked me if I wanted samples
I wanted to say, "Um... have you met me?" But obviously she hadn't
So instead I said, "Yes please! I love samples! I adore products!"
To which husband grumbled, "Yep. You should see our bathroom"
Har-di-har-har
But it's true
I love finding the new greatest thing
With all of my trial and errors with products here are some ones that win out every time
No joke... these are the products I use on a daily basis
#1 / #2 / #3 / #4 / #5 / #6 / #7 / #8 / #9 / #10 / #11 / #12

#1. I love bareminerals. I have been using them for almost 6 years now and I love it just as much now as I did when I first started. Great coverage, good for my skin... can't go wrong.

#2. This is my newest find. Amazing cosmetics amazing concealor. I'm here to tell you it IS truly amazing. I have horrible cronic dark circles and this is the best prodcut I have ever used to hide them.

#3. MAC eyeshadow in shroom. Nice neutral color that goes with everything. If I'm in a hurry... shroom is all I put on. My makeup bag is NEVER without shroom.

#4. Urban Decay primer potion. I use this and MAC's paint pots and I love them both equally. While MAC's paint pots make the color more matte this lets the shimmer shine.

#5. Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in Rose. I am still looking for the perfect cream blush (that I have yet to find) but this is my go to for that nice pinky glow.

#6. Benefit eye bright. I have also been using this prodcut since I was about 16 (I think). My sister introduced me to it and it is truly fabulous. I mostly use it as a brow highlighter. If I'm feeling more adventurous I go for my Josie Maran argan illuminizer (but that's only if I have the time).

#7. Makeup professionals HD powder. While I love my mineral veil, there is just something about this little jar that makes my makeup STAY! Light and translucent... it's a keeper.

#8. MAC studio fix fluid. This is usually my weekend foundation. When I want to look a bit more "dewey" (does that make sense?) and let's face it... sometimes I get tired of getting the minerals everywhere (just being honest).

#9. Dior addict lip glow. I am obsessed with this. I use it everyday without fail. Even if I wear lipstick I still pop this baby on over it. It's to die for.

#10. MAC eyeliner in Teddy. It's my favorite. I have been using it for over 3 years and it's a constant in my makeup bag. Yes, it's that good.

#11. Benefit They're Real mascara. When bareminerals discontinued my favorite mascara I was so afraid to try something new. I hate for my eyelashes to feel clumpy and sticky and stick (after they dry). This is my new favorite. Seriously I don't think my lashes have ever looked better.

#12. Makeup Forever HD microprofecting primer. I honestly have found one that works better (and I have tried my fair few). I like that you can choose from different colored primers.

Awkward and Awesome!

Today is an outfit repeat day. Princess Kate does it too. 
Awkward:
-I had a dream that our tenants that live in our house in California turned it into an igloo. It was reassuring to get an email back from our property manager that all is well there.
-Watching Todlers and Tiaras... It's like a train wreck... I just can't tear my eyes away!
-Speaking of Todlers and Tiaras Honey Boo Boo child has her own show now
-That I'm waiting until the Olympics are over to watch Tangled... and maybe The Princess and the Frog
-Having to page people over the intercom at work. Does my voice really sound like that?
-The majority of my pins on pinterest are food... junk food.
-I haven't been to the pool here once (trust me you wouldn't either if you say the creepsters that are there most days).
-That we still get paper phone books
- I have yet to see any figs here in Colorado. I am starting to get worried.
-Devin caught a chick picking (ahem... digging) in her nose the other day at a stop light. And she caught him catching her in the act. Oops.


Awesome:
-Cocoa roasted almonds. How did I not know about these!?
-Vegas in T-minus 4 weeks!
-Best friend comes to town in 5 weeks!
-The olympic gymnists will be in town in 7 weeks!
-Husband packs my lunch for work :-)
-We have decided to go to Italy next year! (any tips? planning begins NOW!)
-Tomorrow is Friday!!!

Accident

Hey guys, I'm sorry for my absence today (and most likely tomorrow, and maybe Wednesday). Devin and I were in a car accident tonight - We both are OK, my knee is just a little sore from hitting the door on impact (but we'll see if we're more sore tomorrow). A girl who was on her cell phone tried to cut across 2-3 lanes and apparently didn't see our giant black truck in her way. Devin slammed on the breaks and swerved, but she still hit my passanger side. We were very lucky it wasn't more serious. Our brand new truck was not so lucky. She even said when we got out to ask if she was ok, "Oh... sorry guys... I had to take a call and get to the bank." Sigh. Husband fed me Mexican food and ice cream for dinner (I figured we deserved it). I am going to take the next few days off and I hope to be back for Awkward and Awesome Thursday! Thanks for understanding!

Steak & Potato Grilled Cheese


Let me start off by telling you that this is a man meal. One time I tried to have husband and I do a detox diet and after about 3 days he exclaimed, "I can't eat like this! I can't eat like a rabbit!" Poor guy. Needless to say we haven't dont a detox since. So when I told husband what I had in the works for dinner, he was excited. Not only that, but he did an awesome job grilling the seak. Oh.. and I should mention... these sandwiches were legitimately grilled... on our BBQ grill. We both loved the carb-y-ness and ultimate grilled cheese that this sandwich was. And BBQing your grilled cheese!? Genius. I got the idea off of pinterest and made this recipe my own. 

You'll need:
-1 top sirloin steak
-provolone cheese
-1 big red potato (or a couple little ones)
-2 tbsp chopped green onions
-Olive oil (or butter if you are feeling extra naughty)
-Garlic powder
-Sea salt & pepper
-Onion
-French bread

To make:
Take steak out of the fridge (if you are like me and keep it hibernating in there), pat it dry, and brush with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper and allow it to warm to room temperature for about 30 minutes. Evenly slice your potato and toss with some olive oil (just eyeball it) and a little bit of garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. You can either grill your potatos directly on the grill or fry them up in some olive oil. Your potatos should take about 20 mintues to cook either way. I used the fry pan and it gave the potatos a nice crunch. Slice onion and caramelize in a fry pan with a tbp olive oil (or butter) on medium to low heat. Chop your green onions and set aside. Once your steak is ready heat your grill on high for 5 mintues. Once it is heated turn it down to medium and cook your steak the way you like it (be sure to undercook it a teensy bit beacuase you will be throwing everything back on the grill and it will cook further). Once your steak is done let it rest for 10 minutes before thinly slicing. When everything is finished cooking brush both sides of the bread with olive oil and layer on your ingredients. I found it best if I layered my cheese, green onions, potatos, yellow onions, then the steak. Add sandwich to grill and let it cook until crush is golden brown... Then... You stuff your face!
P.S. If your husband/boyfriend/man helps you make this... be sure he doesn't start a fire like mine did.
