Sew and Tell

You guys... I DID IT!
Remember THIS and THIS ???
Well... its finished
Yep... me... I sewed this...
I stitched every stinkin' one of those little scrunches in the middle of all of those squares
and I sewed the bazillion squares to make rows
and then I sewed the rows together
and then I realized it wasn't big enough
So then I added more fabric to the outside because there was no way I was makin' more of those squares
and then... there is was... that beautiful anthropologie inspired quilt that I started {and dreamt about} months ago...
And it is done

And now I will never sew a quilt again {haha}
Now... on to my next project!- probably matching shams- please excuse the nonmatching ones

Oh, How Pinteresting!!! Holiday!

This is my absolute favorite time of year... Other than my b-day month
These are the days that I turn the the Christmas music up full blast {and get a bit teary eyed while listening to Judy Garland's "Have yourself a merry little Christmas"}
And when husband and I come home and snuggle in front of our tree after dinner
So in the spirit of Christmas here are some of my favorite Holiday Pins whilst linking up with The Vintage Apple

The Tree

Oh Christmas tree
Oh Christmas tree
You were such a pain in the rear end to put up this year- But don't worry I still love you
(decorating my parent's tree)

So... Saturday... we decided to put the lights up on the outside of our house and get the tree later... later came... and even later came... and then it was 5pm and dark and we had just started looking for a Christmas tree. Our usual place (that we got a giant tree last year for $20) had upped their prices (double!) and their tree's weren't all that great. Boo and hiss.
(snow man tree!)

So we headed to the ever faithful "cut your own tree down and pay a fortune for your tree" place... but... I just couldn't spend $75 on the tree I wanted. I mean... I got leather BOOTS for that much and I get to enjoy them longer than 4 weeks. So it was a no go.
(our tree)

We ended up at OSH of all places. And picked a tree (at 8pm) without seeing it opened or anything. It was like the blind audtion off the Voice. Oh you want to be our tree? Ok... you look tall enough and you are thicker than the rest... you can be on our team.

Opening that sucker... was like the scene from Christmas Vacation where the branches all of a sudden snap out and Chevy Chase says "A little full... lots of sap"... not to mention that our tree (that I have now named Harold- as in "hark the HAROLD..." yes I know it's really spelt herald) wouldn't stand up straight. He squished me 3 times. So we had to cut some branches off to make him even and balanced.
(all done!)

And now Harold looks fantastic. Husband says, "Its our best tree yet!" And I have to agree. We did pretty good picking Harold to be on our team.  OH and are you loving my parent's tree (its the white one up top)? Inspiration found via pinterest.
(Merry Christmas from Lucy!)

P.S. Want to see my favorite ornament? Husband in 1989... love him.

It's OK...

Monday you are now my arch nemesis. I dread you Monday's. And I try to avoid you like the plague. Alas... you come... despite my efforts to ignore you. So here is round 3 of my It's Ok's...

It's OK...
-To eat pie. It takes 3,500 calories to gain 1lbs of fat... I'm pretty sure that slice of pie isn't that high in calories
-To buy 3 pair of tights and 3 pairs of knee high socks to go with the new boots sittin' in my closet
-To want to re-read The Hunger Games even though I just finished reading the series
-To have your mom wrap all of your Christmas presents in Disney Princess wrapping paper
-To love your dog... and buy them presents
-To still be mezmorized by rainbows even though you have seen them a bazillion times
-To use make up words like "bazillions" and "ginormous"
-To have a big {real} Christmas tree... it only comes once a year
-To have pine needles on your floor the entire month of December
-To be indecisive about whether or not you want red or black Hunter Wellies
-To be a girl and to have muscles... even if that means searching high and low for boots to fit your calves and to stretch out the arms of your shirts so they fit over said muscles
-To like working out {most days} AND baking
(Shoes: Jessica Simpson. Dress. Shabby Apple. Belt: Expres)

Happy Monday my friends! May your days be filled with Christmas music... I know mine will be ;-)

P.S. For those of you doing the Holiday Tradition Swap I emailed out who you are paired up with!

Thanksgiving and Black Friday

Thanksgiving didn't feel much like Thanksgiving this year to me. Maybe it was because we got in line at Best Buy at 5pm that night... Yeah that was probably it. I didn't have time to enjoy the full "day" that is Thanksgiving. We got up early, finished cooking... cooked some more... and more... ate... and ate some more.... and then we waited in line. The actual food was fantastic.

I made my very first herb crusted turkey, fruit salad and fruit dip, and 2 chocolate peanut butter pies. My mom made homemade stuffing and sweet potatoes, deviled eggs, and our ever famous "turkey rolls". It is so much work for all of 15+ minutes of eating... alas I have been enjoying the spoils of that meal for 4 days now.

And then it was Black Friday. Oh the waiting, waiting ,waiting... not to mention the pushing and shoving and screaming and cutting in line. I hated it. I hated every moment of it. And I mean it. Hate hate hate. I will never do it again.

I wanted to scream... and I did. When the doors finally opened and the mass exodus began, I was squished between the people stopped waiting to get in and the people pushing us forward trying to get in. I thought I was going to faint. "Let me out!" I yelled over and over... and no one would. "Stop pushing!" someone else yelled... and no one would. I thought "Why in the world are we doing this? Is it even worth it?" It isn't.

Not at Best Buy at least. I have only done Black Friday since meeting husband... and all my other experiences have been relatively pleasant. We usually Target {first} and then work our way to other places...and there was order and I never heard screaming or saw shoving {in my own experience} or had the wind knocked out of me like I did this time. I told husband that I quoted the Raven on this one -"never more".

Never ever will I go to either Best Buy or Walmart on Black Friday.... because I am not willing to scream and yell and shove to get a good deal. I would rather be at home snugglin' on my love then be out in that whole mess again.

I have to admit my friends, that sometimes I am so stinkin' busy to be grateful for the Little things- You must think I am a terrible person. Its not that my blessings go unnoticed... on the contrary I know that I am extremely blessed and I make sure to say "thank you"... but I think being grateful is an attitude that I sometimes have a bad attitude about... a lot of things. So... today I am going to share some little things that I am grateful for {that I usually take for granted}... in no particular order
(I am most thankful for this cute man)
Bubble baths
Warm, fresh bread
Chocolate on bad days
Hair ties
The color Pink
Washing machines
Tooth brushes
Turkey {hello Thanksgiving}
Romantic comedies
Nail polish
Fuzzy warm blankets
Pinterest (haha!)
Peppermint hot chocolates
(Devin and Lucy resting after turkey)
I think its all too often we {and me especially} forget how much we actually HAVE. Even as I am writing this I am thinking things like "I am grateful for the carpet in my house" or "the hot water we have" or "that we have enough food to eat". I could do without most of the above list. What I can't do without is what is most important. My husband, my family, my friends, my faith...
(Turkey coma!)
What are you thankful for today?

P.S. Thanksgiving was delicious. Mom and I baked and cooked and baked and cooked some more. Pictures and stories of my black Friday horror to come.

A VERY early Awkward and Awesome

Yes, I know its not Thursday yet... But... seeing as how Thursday will be Thanksgiving and tomorrow is pinterest day... I figured we could use a bit of awkwardness to get us through these last few days before Thanksgiving.
(Boots: Macys. Socks: Target. Skirt: Gap. Cardi and Headband: J. Crew. Belt: Express)

-This dude I saw driving who totally had a Captain Hook mustache. I know mustaches are all the rage... kind of... but I had to do a double take on this one.
-This little girl (I think) who came in to work who looked like Pete from Pete's Dragon... seriously it was scary how much they looked alike.
-This weird dude in my math class who keeps texting me (I gave it to him for a group thing we had to do... the group thing is over and he continues to text me) and his text yesterday said, "Help! I've fallen! And I can't reach my crack bong!" Ok... um... you have some serious issues... and stop staring at me in class... k... thanks
-When I had my NARS Schiap lipstick on and everyone kept saying, "Whoa... your lips are PINK!" I wanted to say "REALLY!? I had no idea!? Thanks for telling me"
-How my conversations lately have all turned in to "So.. have you read the Hunger games!? Who does Katniss end up with!?" And no one will tell me... but the second book is making me mad
-Lucy sometimes winks at me and I wink back at her. Its not like she means anything by it... or does she...?
-People of Walmart. You know what I'm talking about
-The other day when Devin and I couldn't decide if it was a man or women rockin' out in the car next to us... that will forever be awkward.

-Thanksgiving is 2 days away
-I only have today and tomorrow left at work
-Black Friday... t minus 3 days
-The Hunger Games... Why oh Why friends did you tell me to read it!? I'm hooked
-Having at heater at my desk at work. I almost sat on the floor and did my work last night I was so cold
-Hot chocolates... has anyone had a salted caramel one?
-The pie{s} I will be making tomorrow
-My mom's awesome rolls we will also be having
-Scarves, boots, jackets... I love fall

P.S. Friends there is still time to get involved in our Holiday Tradition Swap!!! Please if you would like to join us email me at I have 8 of us so far and I would love to have more of you join! The deadline is Monday the 28th. Happy Tuesday friends!

It's OK...

(pants, shirt, cardi: j crew. shoes: rocketdog. glasses: nicole miller)

Happy Monday my friends! I hope you all had an amazing weekend- What did you do!? Thank goodness its only a 3 day work/school week.
Monday and I are not getting along. So- to help me make it through I did some more "it's ok's" because... well... they make me feel better

It's OK...
-To get a "B" in a class. It still means you did well
-To read the entire 1st book of The Hunger Games in a day (you guys it has totally sucked me in!)
-To eat a red velvet cupcake that your husband made- it was worth it. Husband had one for breakfast this morning.
-To not get out of bed until 11am on the weekends
-That husband is better at ironing than me
-To have cellulite. Its natural and everyone has it- even skinny girls (so there)
-To wear legging as a substitute for pants (sometimes) especially when you are at home
-To see Breaking Dawn twice and make fun of it the second time around. It was definitely better at midnight
-To dump a bunch of stuff in the crock pot and call it dinner
-To have man calves. It just means I have muscles... right?
-To wear your hair up in a bun or in a side braid 3-4 times a week
-To be excited and sad to be moving all at the same time
-To be a girly girl and still want to climb mountains and get dirty... just as long as I can have a shower and an ice cream sundae afterwards. {That's all I told husband I wanted after our Half Dome trip "I want an ice cream sundae with hot fudge!"}

What's "OK" with you today?

Call me crazy

(shoes: rocketdog. pants: jcp. tshirt: marshalls: cardi: express. necklace: chanel. lipstick: nars schiap)

Sometimes I get a little crazy... just... a little...
Like... last night... at the Breaking Dawn midnight showing {yep I went}
I coudln't stop myself from screaming when TL took off his shirt
And hitting Ruth and Sarah [lightly] at the good parts and saying
and also cringing at the gross parts- there was a lot of blood

And telling Ruth and Drew {the babies of the group} to shut their eyes
during the Oooo-la-la bits
There was a lame-o part when Jacob gets all crazy and has this gnarly voice and it sounds really stupid
But over all... that dang movie has sucked me in. Best one of them all so far.

And while we are on the subject of crazy... has anyone seen the Target Black Friday commercials? They make me laugh so hard because Devin says, "Thats us!"

This is the comercial they used last year... Target opens at midnight... FYI ;-)
One week left people
Game on

P.S. I am so excited about our Holiday Tradition Swap!!! Interested? Email me at
