An Early Awkward and Awesome

(this is about as big as one of my purses...)

So you guys... I'm packing up to go and see husband tomorrow. I know I know- why was I being such a baby about him being gone... blah di blah di blah.... so happy I made it to today! Whats up with the $25 charge to check in your BAG!?!?! BOO TSA... BOO. My bag is currently empty because.... A. I haven't decided which bag to take. B. Husband said I HAVE to take a carry on so they don't charge me to check it in (UM... Husband... HAVE YOU SEEN MY CLOSET?)  I am now contiplating mailing all my clothing to myself via FedEx like Becky Bloomwood in "Confessions of a Shopaholic"- it sounds very tempting right about now...
(1 of 4 "sections" of the closet...and don't even get me started on the un-matching hangers... I'm workin' on it)

And because its Thursday in some parts of the world...

Awkward:
-Having a guy sit next to you in class and I sneezed almost the entire time which was awkward in and of itself but I had to move seats ... What do you say? "Um excuse me but I think I am allergic to you I need to move"
-Then... this guy with the worst breath ever sat next to me the very next class... I can't catch a break
-When I wrote this girls name on the books at work as "Guadalupe Lupe"... where has my brain been this week?
-When you go to a cheap nail salon and all the people there are speaking in a different language than you and they are laughing and you can't tell if they are laughing about you or not- There is nothing wrong with my feet ok
-That all of a sudden the missionaries look like babies to me- You graduated in 2010??? Where have I been!?!?!?
-WARNGING these next 2 may be TMI: That time when we were away on vacation and my sister went back to our beach house (with the car) and then a member of my family (who shall remain nameless) decided that she needed to go #2 right away and she didn't want to use the bathrooms at the beach so we walked all the way back to the beach house (thinking my sister would still be there) and it was locked! This member of my family was "about to die" apparently because she pooped in a McDonald's cup in the outside shower at the beach house and I had to get her some leaves as "toilet paper"... I cried I was laughing so hard. I about died when she put the lid on it and threw it in the trash can too...
-This one is Devin's... so he is in C.O. doing a training class and his very first day of class there is this old civilian there and the dude was having very loud flatulence (aka farting) during the entire class and he made no recognition that anything was happening and everyone was trying to move away from him. Husband said "Its very distracting!" I am immature so I would have been rolling on the floor laughing.

Awesome:
-I get to see my husband tomorrow!!! ...
-Which means flying on a plane and looking through SKYMALL
-My cute pillow I made (who else loved it!? I think I feel a give-away coming your way soon!)
-I started my antro. inspired quilt! (pray that I make it look cute I'm kinda nervous)
-My mom took me to get a pedicure today! That counts as multiple levels of awesomeness I think
-Still doing my Insanity workouts
-Its going to be a LONG WEEKEND!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend lovelies! I will be MIA from blogging land until probably Tuesday. Lets chat then ok?

My name is Whitney... and I have a problem

So... you know how I told you that I like love info-mercials? Well... I kinda found something EVEN better.
Yes... I am now a QVC/HSN junkie. I can't help it! Its like 24/7 info-mercials! And they are hilarious. I really don't like to watch  jewelery or technology stuff but I am all about the kitchen stuff, home decor, cosmetics, clothing- its so much fun (to me)!
Don't worry though... I haven't bought anything.... quite yet... I have been tempted to though...

Does anyone remember Tonly Little and the gazelle? Well as it so happens he has been making regular appreances on HSN and it has been my sole source of entertainment this week... because the dude is just ridiculous.

(you're welcome)

Some of my favorites of his (other than the gazelle... and the fantastic picture above) - are his new bison burgers and his barefoot footwear...

Hours of fun friends... hours of fun :-)

Friends don't let friends have spider leg eyes...

Like this... which is why I need your HELP! My favorite mascara EVER... has been DISCONTIUED. I almost cried when I heard the news.
This is my favorite mascara... Bare Escentuals Big Tease. This baby is amazing! It gave me length and separation AND NO SPIDER LEG EYES... le sigh....

Alas, over Christmas husband bought me 4 tubes of my favorite stuff and I'm down to my last one. So... since I trust you more than the girls at the makeup counter ("have you found a new mascara yet!?!? she said- is it sad when they know you at the makeup counter?)...

Please let me in on your mascara thoughts/secrets/recommendations... because otherwise my eyelashes might end up looking like the above picture....

Stay Strong and Carry on...

"Stay strong"... Husband told me as I dropped him off at the air port. "Don't cry. I love you! And I will see you soon!"

"You can't MAKE me stay strong thankyouverymuch... you're leaving me- I know its not by choice- and I'm stuck here and I don't want you to go!"- I wanted to say. But I didn't. I said, "Be safe, I love you more." And I didn't cry- atleast not at the airport.

I tried so so hard to stay strong this whooooooooole week- and last night as we got into bed I just couldn't take it any more. I cried. And husband held me. And told me he loved me.

I am thankful that he isn't being deployed. I am thankful that it is only 3 weeks (the way I have been acting you would have thought that he was leaving for a year). I am thankful that he will still be in the US. I am thankful that I will still be able to talk to him- and that I get to visit him in a few days.

Why am I being such a baby about it? No matter how long husband leaves me for I think its always going to be hard for me.

One day at a time.

My first DIY...

Welcome to the area (aka corner) that will become my sewing area (can you see it there... way in the back by the rug that Lucy chews up? yeah that's it). I know I know... its a CORNER...and its in the garage...  but its all I've got to work with. Before I decided to become "crafty" I filled the rest of my 2 story house with furniture from a store... who does that? Oh wait... I did. Dang. Now I am creating my "creative space" in the least inspiring spot in outside of our house. But check out this cute little desk I scored thrifting! ***GASP*** Yes I actually went into a thrift store... I didn't stay long. Desk=a $20 bill! I would say thats a score.

YES I still want to paint it pink... sue me. I have NEVER painted anything pink (shocker) and now is my chance.

I also have plans to change out the hardware. I have been drooling over anthropologie's knobs....

Who knows... maybe I will get to Home Depot and decide to paint my desk green... or yellow. But as of right now I have every intention of painting that sucker PINK.

Maybe when we move we will get rid of our 2 guest rooms and only have 1 we can have an office/creative space.

But I can do it right? My mom and I already made these pillows and re-covered my desk chair... so... its possible that I can make this desk cute... right???

Awkward and Awesome!

(I have been mailing these suckers out all week)
Awkward:
-Having this lady at my parents office say "OH are YOU the daughter that was on Survivor?" Me, "Um... no...." her face fell about 6 inches- incase I couldn't tell from the "oh... ok" she gave me. My approval rateing just went down 10 points.
-That my chemistry teacher looks like a pregnant Abe Lincoln. I was tempted to say "Hello Mr. President"
-Walking to a car (that had someone in it) that you thought was yours... only to get there and realize it soooo wasn't
-Cellulite... WHY is that necessary? And while I am on the topic of cellulite....
-People who should'nt wear bikini's to the beach and do. I am all for loving your body- but love it in secret and don't show it to me K? Thanks.
-My math teacher... She is CRAZY. She always says things and wants you to finish her sentence. "I write your homework on the......................................................................" and she waits for everyone to say "BOARD" and she wears miniskirts and berkinstocks.
-The looks I got wearing my green jeans. They are cool OK!?

Awesome:
-The first week of school is OVER
-I am no longer taking a night class (praisetheLord)
-Peanut butter... and nutella
-My husband when he hugged me this morning and said "I love you! I don't want to leave!" Aww...
-All the projects I have in store for our little house

Sorry guys I can't think of much else thats awesome right now because I am dwelling on husband leaving :-( you guys will keep me company right??????

Anyway........... HAPPY FRIDAY TOMORROW!!! Anyone have anything fun this weekend?

Shoes: Rocketdog. Pants: Express. Tshirt: Downeastbasics. Sweater: J Crew (and you can't tell but its silver sparkly). Necklace: Gift.

Green Legs and Ham

I have this thing about ham.... I hate it. I can't stand it. When my mom busts out the ham for Christmas dinner--she knows to have turkey for me. Want to know whats ironic about that? I LOVE BACON.

I can't help it. Its so delicious. Its magical. It makes (almost) anything taste better. I am a bacon snob though. I only like EXTRA CRISPY bacon. But guess what bacon can't make better? Green beans.

I despise green beans. My mom used to make me sit at the table until I ate 7 green beans and I would end up sort of swallowing those suckers like pills. Nope-not even magical bacon can make those yucky things taste better for me.

The holiday's (yes I am already planning for them thankyouverymuch) are a crazy food fest at my house because I am such a picky eater (so there has to be 2 versions of almost everything). I blame it on what my mom ate when she was pregnant. I swear she never ate green beans, or ham, or WATERMELON (or any kind of melon) for that matter when she was pregnant and thus my distaste for these things developed. She, however, just says I'm picky. Meh- I still like my theory better.

Shoes: Nordy's. Pants: JCP. Top: Marshalls. Jacket: J Crew. Glasses: Nicole Miller

susie-home-maker

(I sat for a while looking at that bright pink box wondering if I should open it or not...)

Look at what I got! A NEW SEWING MACHINE!

(Isn't she beautiful? (Yes its a SHE). Husqvarna Emerald 116. And I love it! Hopefully I wont break it....)

I haven't decided what to call her yet... Originally I was going to call her "Josie". Anyone remember watching "Never Been Kissed" where Drew Berrymore is "Josie Gheller" and she is a weirdo and sits at home at night at cross-stitches? Anyone? Devin's idea was to name it "Stitch" and I said I liked "Lilo" (as in Lilo and Stitch) better. But then I also liked "Dolly"... so for now she is un-named. Any suggestions?

I have a tendency to name things. Like my car's name is Charlie. Devin's truck's name is Brody.... my snowboard is name Sally... see the trend?
So- does anyone have a favorite craft/sewing blogs that they care to share with me? I currently am trying to make a pin-wheel pillow... I am also in the market for a cheap wood desk that I can repaint (PINK!) for my sewing area... that has yet to be created.

But I am super excited to do some home projects. Devin has now started calling me a "Susie-home-maker" and I used to think that that title would freak me out... but it doesn't. Husband said "I never thought you would sew or be a gourmet chef"... thanks cute man.
(The very first thing I made with my new machine! A t-shirt.... haha! Please ignore the ugly picture and the green sleeves... I just wanted to try it on)

Catalina Wine Mixer... without the wine...

First off... having a husband who is a pilot is just-plain-down-right-no-bones-about-it-H.O.T.T. And any time he asks you if you want to fly anywhere the answer is always YES.
(No I did not buy this shirt... but it was hilarious because there was totally some dude at the airport who WAS flying... almost naked)

So, when husband first asked, "Hey, what do you think about flying to Catalina for the day?" I thought "Well OK if I have to" (please note the sarcasm emphasis hehe) ... But I didn't really know what I was getting in to.... I knew it was an Island... and I knew we had to fly there... and thats about it.
(wooohooo!)

Our friend Pierre (he is SINGLE ladies!!!) and Devin flew this itty bitty plane... Actually Pierre started out by flying the plane first and I had never flown with him before. You can tell I was super excited about that...
(my super excited face)

He kept reassuring me "Don't worry two of the best pilots in the Air Force are taking you around today!" I kept thinking... Um... Pierre... I have seen you DRIVE buddy... no but seriously these boys are dead serious about safety and flying. They checked out every INCH of that thing to make sure nothing was out of place and I felt safer- until they crammed me in the back and gave me no time to think about taking off because we were already in the air.

Where was my STOP-REVE-THE-ENGINE-MAKE-ME-WAIT-AND-THEN-TAKE-OFF? Apparently its not needed. I learned that one really quick.

The flight only took about an hour and a half. Mostly over the ocean. "Don't freak out when we go over the water ok?" Pierre kept telling me... um aparently this boy doesn't know I am a flying-over-the-water veteren. These boys really are professionals though- it was the smoothest flight I have ever been on especially in a baby puddle jumper.

We showed up to Catalina in jeans and sweaters basically... and it was 90 degree weather. THAT was embarrassing. We took the scarriest bus ride down to Avalon (which is the town)
and walked around, hung out on the beach, walked on the pier, and ate until it was time to go home
(are you diggin' my "I just woke up from an airpane induced nap" hair?_
We called this trip a "scouting trip" for our next adventure there... hopefully in a few months so we can do the ZIP LINE and stay the night.

Overall it was by far the best day trip husband and I have ever done! I got to watch the sunset from an airplane that my husband was flying- how many people get to do that???

Things I learned from this trip/things I will do next time:
#1 whenever there is the word "island" involved in a trip... bring a bathing suit and sandals
#2 don't leave the planning of a trip solely on boys (sorry guys you know I love you though)
#3 try oysters with pierre and devin... because they said I have to
#4 stay over night
#5 rent a boat

Hope you all had as an amazing weekend as I did!
